A LEED Certified project, the new campus of the Puget Sound Environmental Learning Center is based on a sustainable "green" design and construction. Carefully scrutinizing every aspect of the buildings construction, materials and functionality, VerMeister was proud to be chosen for this illustrious project. For the 2,500 ft2 of reclaimed Douglas Fir used in the buildings, VerMeister providing their high quality and low emitting Idro 2k finish.

Strongly focused on the environment and sustainable design, the Puget Sound Environmental Learning Center (PSELC) offers outdoor science and humanities programs to more than 8,000 students on Bainbridge Island, Washington. With every aspect of the building project carefully scrutinized, the PSELC features an incredible amount of recycled and environmentally conservative aspects and materials. The various floors were made of cork, bamboo, recycled rubber, reclaimed wood and recycled-content concrete. The main center also features a stunning 92-foot wooden beam, that was salvaged from a Montana mine, to act as a roof truss. Countertops were constructed of recycled yogurt containers, crushed sunflower shells and recycled concrete. The sleeping lodge has photovoltaic panels on the roof for energy collection and the facility features it's own natural waste treatment center called a "living machine" that will handle up to 3,500 gallons each day.
